Geri Meyers
Program Consultant & Credible Messenger
Geri Meyers, a Credible Messenger/Re-Entry TAY Mentor at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall for the Anti Recidivism Coalition Inside Programs, is not just a mentor; she is a living testament to the profound power of redemption and healing. Drawing from her own lived experiences within the justice system, Geri plays a pivotal role in guiding young individuals through transformative journeys, embodying the belief that personal growth can break the cycle of involvement in the Criminal Justice System.
Guided by the Serenity Prayer, Geri imparts wisdom and strength to the youth, reinforcing the idea that irrespective of their past or family dynamics, they can overcome adversities. Her commitment to positive change extends beyond Los Padrinos, as she also was a Credible Messenger with Give a Beat’s Cohort at Kirby and Adams JDRC.
During her incarceration, Geri dedicated herself to becoming a Beyond Violence Mentor/Facilitator, specializing in a comprehensive curriculum covering domestic violence, anger management, assertive communication, adverse childhood experiences, the trauma process, and decision-making strategies for nonviolent and constructive choices. Her experiences as a mentor and facilitator instilled in her a deep understanding of the transformative potential within awareness, healing, and forgiveness.
As a certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor, Geri seamlessly integrates physical and mental health into her mentorship approach, emphasizing the importance of holistic well-being. Her goal is to enhance the quality of life for those she mentors, encouraging them to recognize that true change comes from within.
Geri Meyers stands as a beacon of hope, illustrating that transformation is possible for anyone willing to embark on the journey of self-discovery and healing. Venturing into the realms of DJing, music production, and Business Development, she graduated from Give a Beat’s “On a New Track” cohort 1, expressing her newfound freedom as geriFree. Recognizing her love for positivity in music, Give a Beat Records signed her as an artist, and her single, "Pure Joy by geriFree," was released in September 2022.
Geri has seized opportunities to DJ for social justice causes, including The Youth Development Summit, Call to Action at UCLA, and the Art for Justice grantee. She currently leads the ongoing "Hope and Jam" sessions at Los Padrinos, aiming to bring hope to the youth through musical interaction that contributes to their well-being while incarcerated.
Being geriFree is crucial for Geri in expressing her love for dancing to the beat of her own freedom, positive energy, and inclusivity through her song choices in her DJ sets.
Currently, Geri is developing two impactful curriculums. The "Domestic Violence Prevention, Intervention, Transformation (PIT)" curriculum empowers survivors to navigate the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on their mental and physical well-being. Through the 4 A's—Aware, Acknowledge, Admit, and Accept—participants gain insights and practical coping skills, fostering healthy relationships and a brighter future.
Her "Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) Prevention, Intervention, Transformation (PIT)" curriculum addresses at-risk TAY by helping them understand and overcome the effects of ACEs. Guiding them through the 4 As, Geri equips youth to break free from the cycle of trauma, empowering them to shape their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors for a positive and resilient future. Geri Meyers continues to inspire with her dedication to positive change and her unwavering belief in the transformative power of redemption and healing.
