We are hiring a new Executive Director!

A Note from Lauren Segal, Co-Founder/Executive Director

Last year, Give a Beat turned 10! Hitting that milestone was the catalyst for beginning my transition from the role of Executive Director.

When we started this organization, we brought together the foundational values and potential of dance music culture with a deep belief that it could be a tool for real social change. The gut instinct to galvanize a community using the power of music and channel it toward justice is something I've carried since I was a teenager.

Ten years in, I am clear where I add the most value: seeing what's possible, building the relationships and partnerships to get there, and rallying people around a vision. I can personally do this more effectively in a different role.

As I approach another milestone next year, the big 60, it’s also important for me to create a better work-life balance and make space in my life to address additional social justice issues.

Now is the time to bring in a new Executive Director whose strengths are different from mine and who is uniquely equipped to take the helm, while I focus on the bigger picture, deepening the relationships that have always been at the core of Give a Beat, expanding our reach, and advancing our mission.

To ensure a smooth transition, we are participating in the Nonprofit Sustainability Initiative Executive Transition 2026-27 Cohort that involves coaching us along with 7 other organizations in best practices to strengthen leadership transition and sustainability. Through this program, we have developed a much better understanding of the level of investment required to navigate this journey successfully.

Founder transitions are an especially monumental and delicate process, carrying not just new leadership but an organization's identity and institutional knowledge forward.

As part of this process, we have formed The Next Track transition team – a deliberate, values-aligned initiative to keep our team together, protect the efficacy of our programs, and set our next leader up for success. The Next Track consists of 6 committees made up of members of Give a Beat’s existing board and advisory council, consultants, and staff. I am deeply grateful for the collaboration, commitment, and support of this diverse, passionate, and resourceful team.

I am not going far. As co-founder, I'll remain deeply committed as a board member and advisor as Give a Beat enters its next chapter. This transition isn't an ending; it's the beginning of Give a Beat transforming into the organization it was always meant to be.

This next chapter is one we’re building together, and I believe it’s an exciting moment to celebrate how far we’ve come and all that is still ahead. I hope you will continue to be part of this growing community and the impactful transformation we are generating through music.

Thank you for your continued support!

Lauren
